What happened
Yuma Energy received another $35M from Magna to expand its battery-swapping network for electric two- and three-wheelers in India.
The Bengaluru-based company was spun out of Yulu in 2023 and has completed more than 60M battery swaps across more than 400 stations. Its model focuses on high-utilisation urban vehicles where charging downtime can directly affect driver income and fleet economics.
Why it matters
This is a clean mobility infrastructure signal. For two- and three-wheelers, swapping can solve the problem of slow charging, limited home-charging access and inconsistent grid availability.
The capital also shows continued strategic interest in infrastructure models that sit between EV hardware, energy distribution and urban logistics.
The bigger picture
Electric mobility is not only about vehicle manufacturing. In emerging markets especially, the winning infrastructure may combine batteries, software, stations, financing and fleet operations into one utilisation-driven system.
