Xentra raises €3.18M for SME cybersecurity

Small companies face many of the same cyber threats as large enterprises, but rarely have the budget or staff to build a full security function. Xentra is betting that the answer is a managed subscription rather than another standalone tool.

What happened

Leeds-based Xentra secured €3.18 million, equivalent to £2.7 million, from Maven VCTs and NPIF II – Maven Equity Finance.

The company provides subscription-based cybersecurity, compliance and digital-safeguarding services to small and medium-sized businesses. Its offering combines software, specialist support and managed services through packaged STAX product bundles.

Xentra plans to use the funding to expand its leadership, sales and marketing teams, develop its customer portal and broaden its product range. The company says it serves more than 90 customers and has quadrupled annual recurring revenue over the past two years.

Why it matters

Cybersecurity products are often designed for organisations with dedicated IT and security teams. Smaller businesses may instead face a confusing mix of separate tools, regulatory obligations and external consultants.

Xentra is simplifying that stack into one recurring service. The model could be attractive because SMEs increasingly need ongoing monitoring, compliance support and incident preparation, not just software licences.

The bigger picture

Managed cybersecurity is becoming a form of outsourced infrastructure for smaller companies. As regulation and attack sophistication increase, providers that can combine software with human expertise may capture customers that pure self-service platforms struggle to reach.
