Xeltis Raises €20.5M for Regenerative Implants

Xeltis has raised €20.5 million to advance implants designed to be gradually replaced by a patient's own tissue.

What happened

The round was led by Horizon 3 Healthcare. Xeltis uses absorbable polymers to create temporary structures that guide the body as it forms new tissue.

Its aXess vascular-access product is already being commercially deployed in Europe. The new capital will support European expansion, US trials and preparation for an FDA submission.

Why it matters

Conventional synthetic vessels and valves remain inside the body permanently and can create long-term complications. Xeltis is testing a different model: the implant provides an initial structure, then disappears as living tissue takes over.

If it works reliably, the approach could produce replacements that behave more like natural vessels and adapt better over time.

The bigger picture

Regenerative medicine is often associated with cells or laboratory-grown organs. Xeltis represents another route—using material science to encourage the body to rebuild the required structure itself.

Commercial deployment is an important milestone, but long-term clinical evidence and regulatory approval will determine whether the technology can move from a promising platform into routine care.
