Wealthsimple’s Penny brings AI closer to transfers and trades
Financial assistants become more consequential when they can help prepare an action.

Financial assistants become more consequential when they can help prepare an action.
What happened
Wealthsimple announced Penny, an AI assistant intended to help with financial questions, transfers, invoices and self-directed trades. The company says every action requires client confirmation.
The announcement describes planned capabilities. A date for universal Penny availability was not verified. Separate connections to ChatGPT and Claude are planned for early 2027.
Why it matters
An assistant inside the financial platform can work with the account context and action tools already there. Requiring approval gives the user a chance to check the proposed transfer or trade before it happens.
The bigger picture
The product challenge is to make complex tasks easier without obscuring the details people need to understand. Clear permissions, accurate information and a meaningful confirmation step will matter as much as conversational fluency.
