Vulcan Wins Army Drone Magnet Contract
Vulcan Elements has been selected to supply rare-earth magnets for a US Army initiative aimed at creating a domestic small-drone manufacturing base.

Vulcan Elements has been selected to supply rare-earth magnets for a US Army initiative focused on building a domestic small-drone manufacturing capability.
What happened
The company will supply neodymium-iron-boron magnets for the Army’s SkyFoundry initiative, which is designed around a fully domestic production chain.
Rare-earth magnets are critical components in electric motors used across drones and other advanced systems.
Why it matters
Defence autonomy depends on far more than software. Motors, magnets, batteries, sensors and other components can become strategic bottlenecks when supply chains are concentrated abroad.
Rare-earth processing is particularly sensitive because China dominates large parts of the global market.
The bigger picture
Defence-tech investing is expanding upstream into industrial capacity and materials. Building resilient supply chains for critical components may become as important as funding the startups assembling the final systems.
