Voodin consortium wins €48M for wooden wind blades
A consortium led by VMG Wood Invest has secured a €48.18M EU grant to build an automated Spanish factory for engineered-wood wind-turbine blades.

Wind power is central to the energy transition, but conventional turbine blades create a difficult end-of-life waste problem because their composite materials are hard to recycle.
What happened
A consortium led by VMG Wood Invest and including Voodin Blade Technology secured a €48.18M grant from the EU Innovation Fund.
The funding will support an automated factory in Spain producing turbine blades from engineered wood. The facility is planned to begin operating in 2031 and is designed to manufacture up to 160 blade sets per year.
Voodin’s approach aims to replace difficult-to-recycle fibreglass composites with materials that can be processed more easily at the end of a blade’s useful life.
Why it matters
Turbine blades are large, specialised structures that must withstand years of mechanical stress and harsh weather. Changing their core material is therefore a major engineering and certification challenge, not simply a sustainability substitution.
If the technology performs reliably, it could reduce waste while supporting more localised European manufacturing.
The bigger picture
Climate infrastructure increasingly needs to address its own material footprint. The next phase of renewable-energy growth will be judged not only by the electricity produced but also by supply chains, recyclability and end-of-life management.
This project is still a long-term industrial build rather than an immediate commercial rollout, but it shows public funding moving toward the manufacturing systems needed to make renewable infrastructure more circular.
