Vera Health Raises $28.5M Series A

Doctors face a growing volume of medical research, while conventional AI tools can produce convincing answers without sufficient evidence. Vera Health is building around that trust problem.

What happened

Vera Health announced a $28.5 million Series A led by Threshold Ventures, with participation from Optum Ventures, Mantis VC, SV Angel and existing backers. The financing brings total disclosed funding to approximately $32 million.

Its AI-powered clinical search platform evaluates scientific publications, practice guidelines and drug information, presenting answers alongside supporting evidence and signals about study quality. The company says it searches more than 60 million documents and has been used by over 800,000 clinicians across 190 countries.

Vera offers access to licensed clinicians and trainees free of charge, while monetising institutional integrations and tailored deployments with hospitals and health systems. The user and document figures are company-reported, not independently measured patient outcomes.

Why it matters

Clinical questions often have competing studies, regional guidelines and weak or incomplete evidence. A useful AI product must distinguish reliable findings from uncertain ones and allow medical professionals to inspect its reasoning.

The institution-led commercial model also creates a potential path from individual adoption to enterprise contracts. However, user numbers do not establish clinical effectiveness, safety or customer retention.

The bigger picture

Healthcare AI is increasingly shifting from general chat to specialist tools embedded in professional workflows. In medicine, traceability and rigorous evidence assessment may be more defensible advantages than fluent answers alone. Vera's growth will depend on preserving those qualities at scale.
