Unravel Raises £2.5M for At-Home Hormone Testing

Unravel Health has raised £2.5 million to develop a palm-sized home testing device that could replace occasional hormone snapshots with repeated measurements over time.

What happened

The London-based company raised the round from Conduit EIS Impact Fund and Wrightwood, with participation from Leo Capital, Embryo Ventures, Hermesa and returning investor Zinc VC.

Unravel is developing Micro Lab, a device intended to measure multiple hormones from saliva at home within minutes. The technology is based on research associated with the University of Glasgow.

The company's goal is to let users collect measurements more frequently than they typically could through clinic-based blood tests. That could create a longitudinal view of hormone patterns rather than relying on a result from a single day.

Why it matters

Hormone levels can change substantially across days and menstrual cycles. A one-off test may therefore provide only a limited view of what is happening biologically.

More frequent testing could help users and clinicians observe patterns that are otherwise difficult to capture. However, convenience alone will not make the device clinically useful. Unravel will need to demonstrate analytical accuracy, consistent saliva sampling and a clear relationship between the measurements and meaningful healthcare decisions.

The bigger picture

Consumer diagnostics are moving from occasional tests toward continuous or repeated monitoring. Wearables have already made this familiar for heart rate and glucose; hormones are a more technically complex frontier.

If Micro Lab can generate reliable data at home, it could support a more personalised approach to women's health. The next challenge is proving that richer data leads to better interpretation and care, rather than simply giving users more numbers.
