What happened
Titan OS announced €40 million, approximately $46 million, in financing. Existing investors Highland Europe and Mangrove Capital Partners participated, alongside a credit facility from funds and accounts managed by BlackRock.
The Barcelona company develops an independent smart-TV operating system and advertising technology. Funding will support international manufacturer partnerships, product development and advertising capabilities.
Why it matters
A TV operating system helps determine how viewers find apps and content. Its operator can also build an advertising business, while sharing revenue with television manufacturers.
The bigger picture
Titan's model connects manufacturers, viewers, content providers and advertisers. Expanding the number of screens can strengthen that network, provided the viewing experience remains useful. The financing contains both equity and debt; it is not a €40 million all-equity round.
