TerraFirma raises $115M for robotic construction
TerraFirma is combining robotics, remote operation and direct project delivery to automate one of construction’s hardest physical workflows.

TerraFirma is taking an unusually hands-on route into construction automation: it is not only selling technology, but using that technology to perform the work itself.
What happened
The company raised $115 million, including a $100 million Series A led by Kleiner Perkins. Bain Capital Ventures, Glade Brook, Trust Ventures and other investors participated.
Founded by former SpaceX engineers, TerraFirma builds robotics and software for earthworks and construction-site operations. Its systems allow skilled operators to control heavy equipment remotely, while the company delivers projects through its own vertically integrated construction operation.
Why it matters
Construction robotics often stalls at integration. A customer may buy capable equipment but still need to redesign workflows, train operators and accept project risk. TerraFirma’s operating model lets the company control deployment, collect real-world data and prove productivity inside actual projects.
The trade-off is that direct project delivery is more operationally complex and less software-like than simply licensing technology.
The bigger picture
Physical-AI companies are experimenting with vertical integration because the real bottleneck is often adoption, not technical capability. By owning more of the outcome, startups can shorten feedback loops and demonstrate value faster. TerraFirma’s round suggests investors are willing to fund that heavier model where automation addresses large, labour-constrained industries.
