Supermicro reports preliminary $19.9bn quarterly sales
A very large revenue number still leaves questions about margins and cash.

A very large revenue number still leaves questions about margins and cash.
What happened
Supermicro has announced preliminary, unaudited fiscal Q1 2027 sales of $19.9 billion, compared with $5 billion a year earlier.
Gross margin was 12.7%, down from 17.5% in the preceding quarter. Operations used $434 million in cash.
The company said its closing procedures were incomplete and the figures could change.
Why it matters
Revenue measures sales, while gross margin and operating cash flow describe different parts of financial performance. The reported figures show rapid growth alongside a lower sequential gross margin and cash used in operations.
The bigger picture
These results remain preliminary. Completion of the financial close could change the figures, so comparisons and conclusions need to retain that qualification. Growing AI infrastructure demand does not by itself resolve questions about profitability or working capital.
