Stoke Space adds Kevin Weil as reusable-launch race heats up
Kevin Weil’s board appointment comes as Stoke Space advances a fully reusable rocket programme backed by more than $1B in funding.

Reusable launch is becoming one of the most important competitive fronts in private space.
What happened
Former OpenAI executive Kevin Weil joined the board of Stoke Space.
Stoke has raised $1.34B, including a $510M Series D in 2025, and is developing Nova, a rocket intended to be fully reusable.
Weil was already an early investor in the company through Scribble Ventures.
Why it matters
A board appointment is normally a modest event, but the context makes this one more strategic.
Stoke is trying to commercialise full rapid reuse while launch demand rises across satellites, defence and proposed orbital infrastructure.
Weil brings experience across AI, product platforms and space through prior leadership roles and his earlier work at Planet Labs.
The bigger picture
Space companies are increasingly blending aerospace engineering with software, AI and platform experience.
As reusable launch becomes more competitive, leadership networks that span those domains can become strategically valuable. Stoke’s appointment reflects that convergence.
