Softcat Agrees $1.05B GDT Acquisition
Softcat has agreed to acquire US technology-services company GDT for an enterprise value of $1.05 billion.

Softcat is using a billion-dollar acquisition to expand its US footprint and deepen its capabilities around data centres, networking, security and AI infrastructure.
What happened
The UK IT infrastructure provider signed a definitive agreement to acquire GDT for an enterprise value of $1.05 billion (£785 million).
Softcat plans to finance the transaction through a combination of cash, new debt and a roughly £350 million equity raise.
GDT adds US capabilities across data-centre infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity and AI-related technology services. Completion is expected by the end of the first quarter of 2027, subject to the required conditions.
Why it matters
The AI infrastructure boom is creating opportunities beyond chipmakers and data-centre owners. Enterprises also need integrators capable of designing, deploying and managing increasingly complex compute, networking and security environments.
Buying GDT gives Softcat a faster route into that US market than building the capability organically.
The bigger picture
AI spending is reshaping the broader technology-services sector. As enterprises invest in accelerators, networking and security, companies that integrate those systems become more strategically valuable. Softcat's deal shows how infrastructure demand can drive consolidation among the businesses sitting between hardware vendors and end customers.
