SK Hynix jumps 14% as AI memory demand hits Wall Street

SK Hynix’s strong US market debut puts high-bandwidth memory at the centre of the AI infrastructure trade.

SK Hynix jumps 14% as AI memory demand hits Wall Street

The AI infrastructure boom is not only rewarding GPU makers. Memory has become one of the most strategic bottlenecks in the stack.

What happened

SK Hynix’s US-listed depositary receipts rose 14% on their Wall Street debut.

The company priced 177.9M ADRs at $149 each, raising $26.5B in what was described as the largest US initial share sale by a foreign company.

SK Hynix is a major supplier of high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, used in advanced AI systems.

Why it matters

Modern AI accelerators need extremely fast access to memory, making HBM critical to system performance.

That means the AI hardware race is no longer just about who makes the best processor. It is also about who controls the components around it, including advanced memory, packaging and interconnects.

SK Hynix’s debut shows public-market investors are assigning significant value to those enabling layers.

The bigger picture

AI infrastructure is becoming a broader semiconductor ecosystem story.

The next wave of value may be captured by companies solving bottlenecks around compute rather than only by the companies designing accelerators themselves. Memory sits near the centre of that shift, and SK Hynix is one of its clearest beneficiaries.
