French cloud provider Scaleway is expanding AI computing infrastructure in Sweden and Denmark, adding both AMD- and Nvidia-based capacity to its European offering.
What happened
Scaleway disclosed plans for an AMD-powered AI supercomputing deployment in Sweden using Instinct MI355X accelerators and an additional Nvidia-based computing site in Copenhagen. The Swedish system is expected to involve industrial and technology partners including Bull and other infrastructure suppliers, using AMD's ROCm software ecosystem. The Danish installation is based on Nvidia HGX B300 hardware. The announcements describe planned infrastructure expansions, not a completed rollout of all capacity. Total investment amounts, system size and precise availability dates were not fully specified.
Why it matters
AI startups and enterprises need access to accelerators, software environments, networking and predictable power supplies. European companies also face questions about data residency and their dependence on a small group of large cloud providers. Offering more than one accelerator architecture can provide customers with choice and create competitive pressure around price and software compatibility.
The bigger picture
AI compute has become a strategic infrastructure market in which site selection, electricity costs and cooling can matter as much as chip performance. Europe's sovereign-compute ambitions will depend on whether regional providers can offer reliable capacity at competitive prices. Supporting AMD's software stack also tests whether developers can work effectively beyond a predominantly Nvidia-centred ecosystem.
