Satlyt Raises $8M to Run AI in Orbit
Satlyt raises seed funding to process data directly on satellites instead of sending everything back to Earth.

Satlyt is betting that more satellite data should be processed in orbit before it ever reaches Earth.
What happened
The startup raised an $8 million seed round to run AI workloads on satellites.
Satlyt has already flown software on demo missions, including deploying a lightweight AI model on a spacecraft. A new mission will test its software on another satellite with customers including government and commercial users.
The company is targeting the growing need to analyse space-based data closer to where it is collected.
Why it matters
Satellites can generate large volumes of data, but downlinking everything to Earth is expensive and slow.
Running AI in orbit could reduce latency, lower transmission needs and allow spacecraft to decide which information is worth sending back. That becomes more important as satellites carry more advanced sensors and onboard processors.
The bigger picture
Space infrastructure is starting to look more like distributed computing infrastructure.
As satellites become smarter, value will shift from simply collecting data to processing it at the edge. Satlyt is an early example of that space-edge computing trend.
