Samsung warned that the current RAM-chip shortage is likely to intensify in 2027 and remain tight until at least 2028.
AI labs are sharing medium- to long-term demand forecasts directly with Samsung to secure supply, while memory producers are shifting more capacity toward AI data-centre demand.
Why it matters
AI systems need enormous amounts of memory bandwidth and capacity. Even if companies can buy GPUs, they still need memory, packaging and supply contracts to build usable AI infrastructure.
That pressure can spill into consumer electronics, servers and other chip markets as suppliers prioritise AI data-centre customers.
