Rune Raises $40M for Solar-Powered AI Compute
Rune has raised a $40 million Series A to place modular AI data centres directly at renewable-energy generation sites.

Rune has raised $40 million around a simple but increasingly important idea: move AI compute closer to renewable energy instead of moving all of the electricity to conventional data centres.
What happened
The Series A was led by Spark Capital, with Union Square Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, Activate Capital and others participating.
Rune also unveiled RELIC, a modular data-centre system designed to operate directly at renewable-generation sites such as solar farms.
Why it matters
Renewable projects can lose value when transmission is constrained and electricity has nowhere to go.
Locating compute near generation can turn otherwise curtailed power into revenue while reducing dependence on long waits for grid connections.
The bigger picture
AI's energy problem is creating entirely new data-centre architectures.
Rather than placing every facility near traditional fibre and utility infrastructure, some operators may increasingly follow cheap energy. Rune is an early bet that compute can become a flexible industrial load deployed wherever clean power is abundant.
