RMZ plans $35B AI data-centre expansion in India

India’s RMZ plans a major data-centre expansion, another sign that AI infrastructure is becoming a serious capital race.

RMZ plans $35B AI data-centre expansion in India

India’s AI infrastructure race is getting bigger, faster and more capital-intensive. The country is becoming a key battleground for data centres, cloud capacity and the physical backbone of AI.

What happened

India’s RMZ plans to scale its data-centre capacity to around 2–3GW over the next five years as part of a reported $35B investment push.

The company currently has around 250MW of capacity and is exploring projects that could take it beyond 1GW before expanding further.

Why it matters

This is not just a real-estate expansion. It shows how AI infrastructure is pulling traditional property and infrastructure players into a much more strategic market.

Data centres are becoming the factories of the AI economy. As demand for compute grows, companies that can combine land, energy access, capital and execution speed could become critical infrastructure providers.

The bigger picture

For India, this is also about digital sovereignty. More domestic data-centre capacity means more local compute, more cloud resilience and a stronger foundation for AI companies building for Indian and global markets.
