Radical Ventures Raises $1B+ AI Scaleup Fund
Radical Ventures has secured more than $1 billion for a late-stage AI fund aimed at backing companies scaling toward global leadership.

The AI funding market is not only producing larger startup rounds; it is also reshaping the funds that finance them. Radical Ventures has secured more than $1 billion for a late-stage vehicle focused on scaling AI companies.
What happened
The Radical Breakouts Fund reached its first close with commitments from institutional investors including PSP Investments, CPP Investments, HOOPP, TD, BMO, CI Global Asset Management and OPTrust.
Unlike Radical's earlier-stage strategy, the new vehicle is designed for companies that have already found technical and commercial traction and need much larger pools of capital to expand globally.
Why it matters
Frontier AI, infrastructure, robotics and enterprise AI companies increasingly require hundreds of millions of dollars before reaching public markets. That creates a financing gap between conventional venture rounds and mature growth equity.
A billion-dollar specialist fund gives Radical the ability to follow companies much further through that scaling phase instead of handing them off to generalist investors.
The bigger picture
Canada has produced globally important AI research and startups, but many companies ultimately rely on US capital as they grow. Large domestic and institutional vehicles can help retain more financing influence locally.
The fund also reflects a broader shift in venture capital: specialist AI managers are moving downstream because the category's winners may need industrial-scale funding long before an IPO.
