What happened
Quaise Energy closed a $180M Series B, including a $35M investment from Nabors Industries. The round brings total funding to $280M and supports Project Obsidian, its first superhot geothermal power plant.
The company is developing millimetre-wave drilling technology designed to access deep geothermal heat that conventional drilling struggles to reach.
Why it matters
Geothermal is attractive because it can provide around-the-clock clean power, unlike intermittent solar and wind. But reaching deeper, hotter rock has historically been technically difficult and expensive.
Quaise is trying to turn advanced drilling into a route for scalable baseload clean energy. That matters as AI data centres, industrial electrification and grid demand all increase pressure for reliable power.
The bigger picture
The climate-tech market is shifting from pure software and carbon-accounting tools toward heavy infrastructure. If superhot geothermal can move from pilot projects into commercial plants, it could become one of the more important clean-power categories for energy-hungry industries.
