Plend Secures €58M Lending Facility

For lending fintechs, capital access is the product bottleneck hiding behind the software.

What happened

Plend secured a funding facility of up to €58.3 million, or £50 million, from Triple Point. The structure includes an initial £20 million senior revolving credit facility, with capacity to increase to £50 million.

The company uses Open Banking data and proprietary underwriting to serve near-prime borrowers who may be poorly assessed by traditional credit scoring.

Why it matters

Better underwriting models are only useful if a lender also has capital to lend. Facilities like this turn fintech software into actual credit availability.

Plend’s angle is that traditional credit scores can miss people whose financial behaviour is healthier than their file suggests. Open Banking data can give lenders a more current view of income, spending and affordability, although responsible lending still depends on careful risk controls.

The bigger picture

Fintech lending is moving toward more data-rich underwriting. The winners will not just be the companies with slick apps, but the ones that can combine regulatory discipline, capital partnerships and better borrower assessment into a sustainable lending model.
