Planted Raises $31.8M for Solar Robots
Planted has raised $31.8 million to automate solar-farm construction with robotics and software designed to reduce land use and deployment costs.

Solar panels themselves have become cheap. Building large solar farms has not. Planted has raised $31.8 million to automate more of the physical deployment process with robotics and software.
What happened
The financing was co-led by Piva Capital and RA Capital Management Planetary Health, with participation from Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Google, Gigascale Capital and Khosla Ventures.
Planted uses robotic systems to automate parts of site construction. Its software also redesigns project layouts to reduce land requirements and simplify installation.
Why it matters
Utility-scale solar increasingly faces constraints involving labour, permitting, terrain and land availability rather than panel efficiency alone.
Reducing installation time and making projects viable on more difficult sites can have a large effect on the economics of renewable deployment.
The bigger picture
Physical AI is spreading into climate infrastructure. Unlike humanoid robotics, the highest-value early applications may be narrow machines optimised for repetitive industrial tasks where the return on automation is easy to measure.
Planted sits directly in that category. If its systems can reliably cut construction cost and time, robotics could become part of the standard solar-development toolkit rather than a specialised experiment.
