Planetcast buys BroadStream as broadcast moves to software
Planetcast acquired BroadStream to add playout, captioning and workflow products to its global media-services business.

Broadcast infrastructure is becoming a software and cloud workflow rather than a collection of isolated hardware systems.
What happened
Planetcast acquired BroadStream Solutions, a provider of broadcast playout, captioning, subtitling and workflow software. Financial terms were not disclosed. BroadStream will form the core of Planetcast’s new Products Division.
Why it matters
Owning both services and workflow products can give Planetcast a more integrated position with broadcasters and streaming companies. Customers increasingly want cloud-based tools that connect content preparation, accessibility and distribution rather than maintaining separate systems for each step.
The bigger picture
Media infrastructure is consolidating as streaming and cloud delivery blur the line between traditional broadcast and software. Vendors that combine workflow technology with global distribution services may capture more of the production stack.
