Pika opens H3 Flex weights for reference-guided video creation
Local inference supports native 480p and 768p video; higher hosted resolutions and the community licence need to be distinguished.

Creative AI tools are competing on control as well as image quality. Pika H3 Flex adds an open-weight route for reference-guided audio and video generation.
What happened
Reported on 29 October, H3 Flex generates synchronised audio and video in six sampling steps and accepts up to twelve reference inputs.
Local inference supports native 480p and 768p output with mixed audio. Pika’s hosted API offers higher resolutions, including 4K, and additional features. Those hosted capabilities should not be presented as equivalent local functionality.
The release uses the MiniMax-H3 community licence; open weights do not mean unrestricted use.
Why it matters
Reference inputs can help creators maintain direction across a sequence or explore variations with more control. A local deployment also gives teams another way to choose their infrastructure and workflow.
The practical value depends on output consistency, hardware requirements, iteration time and licence suitability.
The bigger picture
The next test is how well the model fits production work rather than isolated demonstrations. Creators need to assess reliability across shots, audio quality, editing requirements and the total cost of arriving at an acceptable result.
