Peloton Adds AI Coaching to Treadmills

Peloton has introduced new treadmills alongside AI-powered coaching that analyses running form and performance metrics.

Peloton Adds AI Coaching to Treadmills

Peloton is adding a more personalised software layer to its hardware as it looks for new ways to make connected fitness feel meaningfully different from conventional exercise equipment.

What happened

The company introduced three new treadmills, including its first foldable model, alongside expanded Peloton IQ coaching.

The AI-powered software analyses running metrics including cadence, vertical oscillation and stride length to provide performance guidance.

The features sit inside Peloton's existing connected-fitness ecosystem rather than as a standalone coaching app.

Why it matters

Consumer AI is particularly valuable when a company already has access to proprietary behavioural data.

Peloton knows how users train, how often they exercise and how their performance changes over time. That gives the company more context than a generic chatbot trying to offer fitness advice from a prompt.

AI coaching can also strengthen recurring subscription economics by making the software experience more personalised even when the underlying hardware changes slowly.

The bigger picture

The consumer hardware market is increasingly using AI to defend software margins. Fitness devices, wearables and health products all generate continuous data that can feed personalised services. Peloton's challenge is to prove that AI coaching produces enough value to improve retention and engagement rather than simply becoming another feature customers stop noticing after launch.
