Peak Energy raises $108M for sodium-ion energy storage
GM Ventures leads Peak Energy's $108 million Series B for US manufacturing and expansion towards data-centre storage.

What happened
Peak Energy closed a $108 million Series B led by GM Ventures, with other new and existing investors participating. It develops passively cooled sodium-ion storage systems for the grid. The financing will support US manufacturing, customer deliveries and expansion towards the data-centre market.
Why it matters
Energy storage is becoming an important part of the infrastructure supporting electricity demand, including the AI buildout. Peak's approach also gives investors exposure to a battery chemistry beyond lithium-ion. Its manufacturing plans will determine how quickly the technology can reach customers at meaningful scale.
The bigger picture
The key test is turning capital and customer commitments into reliable equipment in the field. Storage can help manage when electricity is available, but it does not replace the need for generation and grid connections. Manufacturing output, installation performance and lifetime operating costs will be more useful measures of progress than the size of the financing alone.
