Palo Alto Buys Console for AI Agents

Palo Alto Networks acquired Console to add AI agents for IT and security operations.

Palo Alto Buys Console for AI Agents

Agentic software is moving from startup experiment into core infrastructure-company acquisition strategy.

What happened

Palo Alto Networks acquired Console, a two-year-old AI-native startup that uses agents to automate routine IT help-desk work. The official announcement did not disclose terms, while reporting put the deal at about $500M in cash and stock.

Console’s technology is being positioned around agentifying IT and security workflows.

Why it matters

Large infrastructure and cybersecurity companies are not waiting for agentic tools to mature slowly. They are buying teams and products that can automate operational workflows where customers already feel pain.

Help-desk work is a practical wedge because it is repetitive, high-volume and connected to identity, access, devices and internal systems.

The bigger picture

AI agents are becoming an acquisition target for incumbents that already own enterprise distribution. The most valuable agent startups may be those that plug directly into existing security and IT operations rather than requiring customers to rebuild workflows from scratch.
