P-1 AI Raises Series A for Engineering Agents

AI agents are moving from writing code into designing physical systems.

What happened

P-1 AI announced the initial close of its Series A led by NEA. The company is building Archie, an AI mechanical and electrical engineer for industrial teams.

The round follows a $23 million seed round led by Radical Ventures in 2025. P-1 AI is targeting engineering work that sits outside normal software development, including mechanical and electrical design tasks.

That makes the company part of a broader shift from AI coding assistants toward AI systems for domain-specific technical labour.

Why it matters

Mechanical and electrical engineering are harder categories than office productivity. The work involves constraints, safety, cost, manufacturability, physical systems and specialised knowledge.

If AI can help industrial teams move faster in these workflows, the impact could extend into manufacturing, robotics, aerospace, automotive, energy and hardware development.

But the bar is also higher. Errors in physical engineering can be more expensive than errors in a document or software prototype.

The bigger picture

The next phase of AI agents may be less about generic chat and more about professional copilots embedded in technical workflows.

P-1 AI is a good example of that direction: AI as an engineering colleague for hard-tech teams, not just a text assistant. If it works, it could expand the AI software market into parts of the economy that have been slower to digitise.
