Oshen Raises €4.27M for Ocean Robots
Oshen’s small round points to a bigger robotics opportunity: cheaper, persistent ocean monitoring for climate, security and scientific use cases.

Ocean monitoring is expensive, sparse and often dependent on ships or large equipment. Oshen is betting that smaller autonomous robots can make ocean data more continuous.
What happened
Plymouth-based Oshen raised €4.27M, or about $5M, to scale its autonomous C-Star ocean robots. The round was led by Lunar Ventures, with AlbionVC, Twin Track, Concept Ventures and angels participating.
The company builds wind- and solar-powered ocean robots designed for persistent monitoring. Potential users include navies, weather agencies, ocean scientists and organisations that need better visibility across remote marine environments.
Why it matters
This is a small round, but the use case is strong. Oceans are increasingly important for climate forecasting, maritime security, shipping resilience and offshore infrastructure. Yet collecting ocean data remains slow and expensive.
Autonomous robot swarms could change that by making monitoring cheaper, more distributed and more frequent.
The bigger picture
Oshen sits at the intersection of robotics, climate sensing and defence-adjacent infrastructure. The broader signal is that autonomy is moving into hard, messy environments where humans and conventional equipment are too expensive to scale.
