Oracle AI Data-Centre Debt Comes Under Pressure
Debt tied to Oracle's Project Jupiter AI data centre is trading below par as investors question the financing behind large AI infrastructure projects.

Financing pressure around one of Oracle's large AI data-centre projects is offering a rare counter-signal to the enormous capital flowing into AI infrastructure.
What happened
Around $18 billion of loans associated with Oracle's Project Jupiter data centre in New Mexico are reportedly trading at roughly 89 to 91 cents on the dollar.
Banks including Santander and Jefferies are reported to hold more of the debt than they initially intended after struggling to distribute it.
The project has also encountered local environmental and permitting opposition.
Why it matters
AI data centres increasingly depend on project-finance structures more familiar from energy and infrastructure markets.
When debt starts trading below par, it signals that lenders are reassessing risks around construction, demand, financing costs or project execution. That matters because the AI buildout requires huge amounts of borrowed capital, not just venture equity.
The bigger picture
The AI infrastructure boom will not be financed on enthusiasm alone. As projects grow larger, investors will scrutinise cash flows, counterparties and local constraints much more closely. Pressure around Project Jupiter shows that access to capital can tighten even while overall demand for AI compute remains strong.
