OpenAI agrees to acquire Pierre for code storage and review
Writing code is becoming one part of a much larger contest over developers' tools.

Writing code is becoming one part of a much larger contest over developers' tools.
What happened
OpenAI announced an agreement to acquire Pierre Computer Company, with plans to bring Code Storage functionality into Codex. Pierre's Trees and Diffs libraries are already used in Codex for browsing files and reviewing changes.
The transaction remains subject to closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Pierre's open-source projects will remain open-source, and customers can continue using Code Storage after closing while integration work proceeds.
Why it matters
More generated code creates more work around storage, review and coordination. Those surrounding systems influence whether an agent's output can become software a team understands and is willing to ship.
The bigger picture
This is a proposed acquisition, not a completed integration. It is also a separate development from OpenAI's earlier Pando announcement. Together, the developments place attention on how source-control workflows need to accommodate people and agents working in parallel.
