Omio raises €8.7M for Asian expansion
Multimodal travel platform Omio has secured an €8.7M strategic investment to expand transport inventory and local operations across Japan and Southeast Asia.
Booking ground transport across Asia can involve separate rail, bus, ferry and local platforms. Omio is raising strategic capital to make that fragmented market easier to navigate.
What happened
Omio received an €8.7M strategic investment from Granite-Integral, a joint venture between Granite Asia and Integral Corporation.
The multimodal travel-booking platform will use the funding to expand in Japan and Southeast Asia, build local teams and deepen partnerships with regional transport operators. The investment is separate from Omio’s previously announced agreement to acquire Rail Europe.
Omio allows travellers to compare and book different transport modes through one interface rather than visiting each operator separately.
Why it matters
Travel aggregation depends heavily on local inventory. A platform may have strong technology, but it cannot provide a useful service without commercial agreements, accurate schedules and reliable booking connections with transport providers.
A regional strategic investor can help Omio navigate those relationships and adapt its product to local payment methods and travel behaviour.
The bigger picture
Mobility platforms are moving beyond simple flight and hotel search toward integrated ground transport. Asia offers enormous demand but also significant fragmentation across countries and operators.
Omio’s expansion will test whether a European travel marketplace can become a genuinely global infrastructure layer without losing the local depth needed to make each market useful.
