Nvidia partners target 2GW of Australian AI infrastructure
Nvidia and a group of Australian infrastructure providers are targeting up to 2 gigawatts of AI-factory capacity by 2027.

Australia is positioning itself as a larger regional hub for AI compute by combining energy, data centres and Nvidia’s full-stack infrastructure.
What happened
Nvidia announced partnerships with Australian cloud and infrastructure providers including Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN, Megaport, ResetData, CDC, NEXTDC and AirTrunk. Together they are targeting up to 2 gigawatts of AI-related capacity by 2027 using Nvidia’s DSX platform.
Why it matters
AI compute is increasingly constrained by land, power and data-centre availability rather than chips alone. Building regional capacity gives local companies and researchers more access to high-performance infrastructure without relying entirely on overseas facilities.
The bigger picture
Countries are treating AI infrastructure as strategic capacity. The next phase of the AI race will involve competition over power, data centres and sovereign access to compute as much as model quality.
