Novele Raises $17M for Building Energy Storage
Novele's raise shows commercial buildings are becoming active participants in the energy grid.

Building batteries are moving from backup power into everyday energy management.
What happened
Novele raised an oversubscribed $17 million Series A led by Boisei Labs, with participation from investors including Arup Ventures, Locke Health and Barton Malow.
The company combines AI software with thin wall-mounted lithium-ion battery systems for commercial buildings. Its product is designed to help offices, hospitals and other properties reduce expensive demand peaks and manage power more flexibly.
Why it matters
Commercial buildings are facing a more complicated energy environment. Electrification, volatile power demand and growing pressure on electricity grids are making energy management more valuable. Batteries can help building owners reduce peak-demand charges, provide backup capacity and shift consumption away from stressed periods.
Novele’s angle is not just hardware. The software layer matters because commercial properties need to decide when to store power, when to discharge it and how to optimise around tariffs, usage patterns and grid constraints.
The bigger picture
AI infrastructure and building electrification are both increasing pressure on power systems. That makes distributed energy assets more strategic. Commercial-building batteries could become part of a wider flexibility layer, helping cities manage demand without relying only on new generation or grid upgrades. The challenge will be proving that the economics work across different building types, energy markets and installation constraints.
