Notion is shutting down Notion Mail on September 22, 2026. The company said users are increasingly relying on Notion agents to manage email workflows rather than opening the inbox directly.

Existing Gmail-connected email will remain intact, but users will need to export drafts, scheduled emails, snippets, and auto-label instructions before the shutdown.

Why it matters

This is an early sign that AI agents are starting to replace standalone workflow products inside productivity suites.

Instead of building another dedicated email client, Notion appears to be betting that the higher-value product layer is the agent that can read, organise, prioritise, and act across work tools.

The bigger picture

The first wave of AI productivity was about adding assistants into existing apps. The next wave is more structural: some app surfaces may disappear because the agent becomes the interface.

For enterprise software companies, this raises an important product question: should every workflow have its own UI, or should more workflows become invisible tasks handled by agents in the background?
