Nexeon Secures €116.7M for Silicon Batteries

Silicon-anode materials are becoming one of the clearest battery-chemistry bets for improving lithium-ion performance.

What happened

Nexeon secured €116.7M, equivalent to about £100M or $133M, in new investment. Backers include the UK National Wealth Fund, Korea Development Bank and Honda Xcelerator Ventures.

The UK battery-materials company develops silicon-anode materials designed to improve energy density and charging performance in lithium-ion batteries. The funding gives the company more capital to scale a materials platform that sits upstream of electric vehicles, consumer electronics and grid-storage systems.

Why it matters

Battery performance remains a practical bottleneck across electrification. Better anode materials can help batteries store more energy, charge faster and support smaller or lighter packs.

That makes Nexeon more than a pure materials story. It sits inside a broader industrial race to secure battery supply chains, improve EV economics and reduce dependence on imported critical components.

The bigger picture

Climate tech is shifting from app-like software into hard industrial infrastructure. The most important startups are often not selling directly to consumers, but supplying the materials, components and manufacturing processes that make electrification scale.
