NatPower and Tesla launch $5B battery storage plan
NatPower and Tesla agreed to build 25 GWh of battery storage in Italy and Britain as grid flexibility demand rises.

Battery storage is becoming core infrastructure for the energy transition. NatPower and Tesla’s plan shows how large-scale storage is moving from climate ambition into serious deployment.
What happened
NatPower and Tesla agreed to build 25 GWh of battery storage in Italy and Britain, as the first phase of a wider project worth up to $5B.
NatPower will use Tesla’s Megapack battery storage system and Tesla’s energy trading technology across five initial projects.
Why it matters
This is a strong climate-tech infrastructure signal.
Renewable energy needs storage to balance supply and demand, especially as power demand rises from data centres, electrification and industrial loads. Battery storage is becoming one of the most important tools for grid flexibility.
The bigger picture
The energy transition is shifting from building clean generation to managing clean power reliably. Storage companies and grid software providers may become increasingly important as electricity demand gets more volatile.
