Native buys Frontline for African retail data

Native has acquired Frontline Research Group to add local market intelligence across more than 14 African countries to its trade software platform.

Native buys Frontline for African retail data

AI systems for consumer-goods companies are only as useful as the local market data underneath them. Native is acquiring that data layer for its expansion into Africa.

What happened

Native acquired Frontline Research Group, a market-intelligence company operating across more than 14 African markets. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Native provides software and AI tools to consumer-goods companies managing distributors, retailers and other parts of offline trade.

Frontline adds local data on market share, retail conditions and commercial activity. That information can help customers assess whether pricing, distribution and promotional decisions are producing results.

Why it matters

Traditional retail remains highly fragmented across many African markets, and reliable commercial data can be difficult to collect.

Without accurate local information, even sophisticated AI tools risk producing recommendations based on incomplete assumptions. Native is addressing that limitation by combining workflow software with direct market intelligence.

The acquisition also gives it local operating capability as it expands beyond Latin America.

The bigger picture

Vertical AI companies are increasingly acquiring proprietary data rather than relying solely on public datasets or customer integrations.

In fragmented markets, the data-collection network can become as valuable as the software itself. Native’s opportunity is to create a shared operating layer for consumer brands, distributors and retailers.

The challenge will be integrating different datasets and maintaining consistent quality across countries with very different retail structures.
