Nasdaq Invests $100M in Kraken Parent

Nasdaq Ventures is investing $100M in Kraken parent Payward as traditional and crypto market infrastructure converge.

Nasdaq Invests $100M in Kraken Parent

Nasdaq Ventures has agreed to invest $100M in Payward, the parent company of crypto exchange Kraken.

What happened

The companies are expanding their work around tokenised equities and infrastructure for more continuous trading. Kraken will also adopt Nasdaq's market-surveillance technology as part of the relationship.

Why it matters

This is more than a conventional strategic investment. Traditional exchanges are increasingly exploring tokenisation, extended trading hours and blockchain-based settlement, while crypto platforms are adopting institutional-grade controls and market infrastructure.

The bigger picture

The boundaries between conventional capital markets and crypto-native platforms are becoming less distinct. Rather than competing in completely separate ecosystems, major exchanges and digital-asset companies are starting to share technology, market structure and distribution. Tokenised securities could become one of the clearest areas where those two worlds converge.
