Morphotonics Raises €40M for AI-Glasses Optics

Morphotonics has raised more than €40 million to tackle a manufacturing bottleneck that sits beneath the emerging AI-glasses market.

What happened

The Dutch deeptech company closed more than €40 million in Series B funding from investors including 3M Ventures, Innovation Industries, BOM and Invest-NL, alongside public-backed European capital.

Morphotonics develops large-area nanoimprint lithography used to manufacture optical waveguides and other photonic components.

Its Cypris platform is aimed at high-volume production of waveguides for AI glasses and spatial-computing devices.

Why it matters

Smart glasses depend on far more than powerful AI models. The optics must project information into a user's field of view while remaining thin, light and manufacturable at consumer-electronics scale.

Waveguides are one of the hardest components to produce consistently and cheaply.

That means companies solving manufacturing yield and scale could become important suppliers even if they never build a consumer device themselves.

The bigger picture

AI hardware is creating opportunities deep in the supply chain. Just as the smartphone boom created major businesses in cameras, displays and semiconductor components, AI glasses could create a new photonics ecosystem. Morphotonics is betting that manufacturing infrastructure will become one of the category's most valuable hidden layers.
