Mistral raises €3B as sovereign AI scales
Mistral AI has raised a €3 billion Series D at a valuation above €21 billion, turning Europe’s sovereign AI push into a major capital story.

Mistral AI has raised one of Europe’s largest private technology rounds, giving the sovereign AI thesis considerably more financial weight.
What happened
Mistral raised a €3 billion Series D at a post-money valuation above €21 billion. Samsung Electronics led the round, with the EQT-managed Scaleup Europe Fund and PSG Equity as co-leads. The company plans to expand compute capacity, infrastructure, commercial operations and international reach.
Why it matters
Mistral is increasingly competing on more than model quality. Its pitch to governments and enterprises centres on control over deployment, data location and infrastructure — especially for organisations that do not want their AI stack tied entirely to US providers.
The bigger picture
Sovereign AI is moving from policy language into serious capital allocation. Europe now has a frontier-model company with the funding to build compute and distribution at a scale closer to the largest global AI labs.
