Mido Targets $100M Consumer AI Fund

Consumer AI is still messy, but investors are starting to build dedicated vehicles around the category.

What happened

Former Andreessen Horowitz partner Bryan Kim is launching Mido Capital, a new fund targeting about $100M for early-stage consumer AI and related sectors.

The timing is interesting because consumer AI remains much less proven than enterprise AI. Businesses already have clear budgets for productivity tools, automation, coding assistants, customer support and security. Consumer startups, by contrast, still need to prove that AI can create durable habits, not just viral demos.

That makes a consumer-focused fund a specific thesis. It is a bet that the next wave of AI-native products will not only live inside workplaces. They may appear in entertainment, shopping, dating, personal productivity, education, creativity, wellness or identity.

Why it matters

The consumer internet has been waiting for a new platform shift. Social, mobile and creator platforms produced huge companies, but many recent consumer startups have struggled with retention, monetisation and distribution. AI could reopen the category if it enables products that feel personal, adaptive and useful enough to become daily habits.

The challenge is that consumer AI can be expensive to run and hard to defend. If a feature can be copied into ChatGPT, Gemini, Instagram, TikTok or iOS, startups need another edge: community, data, workflow depth, brand, network effects or a very specific behaviour loop.

The bigger picture

Mido’s fund target is a useful signal that consumer AI is becoming investable as its own category again. The big question is whether this wave produces standalone companies, or whether most consumer AI ideas become features absorbed by larger platforms.

For founders, the bar is getting clearer: a cool AI demo is not enough. The real prize is building something people come back to every day.
