Meta and Reliance bring AI data-centre expansion to India
Meta’s AI data-centre deal with Reliance shows India becoming a more important geography in the global race for compute capacity.

The AI infrastructure race is becoming more global. Meta’s deal with Reliance shows that India is becoming a serious part of the data-centre and compute expansion story.
What happened
Meta is partnering with Reliance on an AI-enabled data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The project is reported to involve 168MW of capacity and would support growing demand for AI infrastructure in the region.
Why it matters
AI systems need large amounts of compute, and that requires data-centre capacity, power, connectivity and local partners. India’s scale and digital market make it an increasingly important location for global AI infrastructure.
The bigger picture
The AI buildout is no longer concentrated only in the US and a few traditional cloud markets. As demand grows, more countries are becoming part of the physical infrastructure layer behind AI services.
