Meta launches cheaper AI smart glasses
Meta and EssilorLuxottica announced a lower-cost AI smart glasses range starting at $299.

Meta is pushing AI glasses closer to the mainstream consumer market. Its lower-cost launch shows the smart-glasses race is becoming less about futuristic AR demos and more about wearable AI at accessible prices.
What happened
Meta and EssilorLuxottica announced a new lower-cost range of AI smart glasses starting at $299.
The devices are the first Meta AI glasses to launch with Meta AI powered by Muse Spark, the first model from Meta’s Superintelligence Labs. Meta already holds a large share of global smart-glass shipments, giving it an early distribution advantage.
Why it matters
This is a consumer AI hardware signal.
Meta is pushing AI glasses downmarket, while other players are testing more expensive AR hardware. That creates a platform race between cheaper everyday AI wearables and premium augmented-reality devices.
The bigger picture
The next consumer AI interface may not be another chatbot window. It could be wearable, always available and camera-enabled — but adoption will depend on price, usefulness and trust.
