Machina selected for LUCAS airframes and pilot robotic factories
Machina's programme selection covers airframe development and two pilot Edge Factories.

Making drones at scale starts with making the factory work.
What happened
Machina announced on 6 November that it had been selected for work on LUCAS airframes and two pilot robotic manufacturing facilities, called Edge Factories. The scope includes development and qualification. Bloomberg reported a $9 million, 18-month trial; those financial terms were not disclosed in the company announcement.
Why it matters
The programme tests the manufacturing approach as well as the airframe. Robots that can form and assemble components flexibly could help address production constraints, if the pilot demonstrates the required quality and throughput.
The bigger picture
A pilot is an opportunity to prove a process, rather than a guarantee of large follow-on orders. The important evidence will come from qualification, production consistency and the economics of operating the factories. Selection alone does not establish that mass production is underway.
