Lightspeed Targets $250M India AI Fund
Lightspeed is targeting $250M for a new India fund with a strong early-stage AI focus, signalling a more concentrated approach to the market.

Lightspeed is returning to the Indian market with a smaller fund and a more concentrated early-stage AI strategy.
What happened
The firm is targeting $250M for Lightspeed India Partners V, with a strong focus on early-stage AI companies. The vehicle is half the size of its $500M predecessor from 2022 and had reportedly secured commitments for about 80% of its target.
Lightspeed already has exposure to Indian AI companies including Sarvam AI.
Why it matters
The smaller fund does not necessarily signal lower conviction. It may instead indicate a shift toward earlier-stage deployment, where cheque sizes are smaller and ownership can be built before valuations expand.
It also reinforces the idea that India is developing a more distinct AI ecosystem, spanning local-language models, enterprise applications, infrastructure and products designed for domestic users.
The bigger picture
Global venture firms are becoming more selective about where and how they deploy capital. Rather than simply raising larger successor funds, some are narrowing strategy around sectors with stronger structural momentum. In India, AI is increasingly becoming one of those organising themes.
