Lemma Raises $2.3M for AI Agent Monitoring

Agentic AI is creating a new monitoring problem: companies need to know what agents are doing after they are deployed.

What happened

Lemma, a San Francisco agentic AI monitoring tool, raised a $2.3M pre-seed round led by Matrix and YC, with participation from Liquid 2 Ventures, Vermilion Cliffs Ventures, Cervin Ventures and operators from OpenAI, xAI, Meta and DoorDash.

The company is targeting the observability and monitoring layer for AI agents.

Why it matters

This is a developer-tools signal, even though the round is small. As agents move from demos into production, teams need tools to track actions, failures, cost, permissions and unexpected behaviour.

Monitoring becomes especially important when AI systems are allowed to use tools, call APIs and operate across workflows.

The bigger picture

The agent stack is starting to look like the cloud-native stack did years ago: builders first need frameworks, then they need observability, security and governance. Lemma is early, but it fits the emerging infrastructure layer around agent deployment.
