Laki Power Raises €6M for Grid Resilience

Laki Power has raised €6 million in Series A funding as electricity-grid resilience becomes both an energy-transition issue and a strategic-security priority.

What happened

The round was led by the NATO Innovation Fund, with existing investor ReykVC participating. It is the fund's first investment in Iceland.

Laki develops self-powered monitoring equipment that mounts directly onto high-voltage transmission lines. The systems combine cameras, weather and line sensors, onboard computing and satellite communications while drawing their power from the transmission infrastructure itself.

The new capital will support manufacturing and international deployment.

Why it matters

Transmission grids are becoming more critical as countries electrify transport and industry while connecting larger amounts of renewable generation and data-centre demand.

Operators need better real-time visibility into line conditions, weather and potential failures to use existing infrastructure more efficiently and reduce outages.

The bigger picture

Energy infrastructure is increasingly overlapping with defence and national resilience. Grid technology may look like conventional climate infrastructure, but reliable electricity networks are also strategic assets. The NATO-backed investment in Laki shows how dual-use investors are widening their focus beyond traditional defence hardware into the infrastructure that keeps modern economies operating.
