Kvasir’s €10M round targets the hard problem of cleaner shipping fuel

Shipping is one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise. It needs fuels that can work at industrial scale, across global routes, without requiring every ship to be rebuilt from scratch.

What happened

Danish biofuel startup Kvasir Technologies raised a €10M Series A and formed a strategic partnership with European Energy.

The company converts non-edible agricultural and forestry residues into refined biofuels for the maritime sector. Its fuel is designed as a direct replacement for conventional marine fuels, without requiring changes to ship engines or existing infrastructure.

The partnership will support a new venture focused on developing a commercial-scale biofuel production facility.

Why it matters

Climate tech often struggles when the solution looks good in a lab but cannot plug into existing industrial systems.

Kvasir’s pitch is interesting because it targets compatibility: cleaner fuel that can fit into current shipping infrastructure. That matters in maritime transport, where replacement cycles are long and operational disruption is expensive.

The bigger picture

The next climate winners may not be the most futuristic technologies, but the ones that can meet heavy industry where it already is.

Kvasir’s round points to a practical climate infrastructure theme: decarbonisation needs products that can scale commercially, not just technically.
